    FYG Clinical Rotations

    Outpatients - MSK (Chronic and Acute)

    • Orthopaedics and fracture management
    • Falls and Balance group and Cardio Pulmonary Rehab group
    • RFDS outreach to rural FWLHD MPS sites

    Inpatient medical ward – 32 beds mixed caseload

    Leave coverage and weekend and public holiday on call (approx. 1x month)

    Opportunities can be available for experience in paediatrics, casting and Women’s Health

    Working Hours

    0800-1630 Monday-Friday

    Weekend Shifts

    Rotating on-call roster within the Physiotherapy department for weekends and public holidays

    Accommodation

    Free accommodation in Staff Quarters on hospital campus with parking available

    Travel

    Broken Hill finances one return flight between Sydney and Broken Hill for each FYG during your stay. If FYGs drives to Broken hill for the duration of the secondment then the fight can be negotiated with management to be taken during the 3 month period at the hospital. 

    Orientation Process

    Hospital orientation completed with Senior Physiotherapist’s on commencement of duty on first day.

    Education Programs

    Fortnightly physiotherapy staff in-services.

    Monthly combined Allied Health in-services.

    Pre-Requisites e.g. D/L; Interest in clinical areas relevant to facility

    Social Activities

    The allied health department is friendly, social and inclusive with many young professionals moving out for work opportunities and the easy living Broken hill lifestyle. There are a number of sports teams and social competitions occurring each week (AFL, Netball, tennis, cricket, swimming pool) as well as cultural activities especially in arts (regional art gallery, pottery, art and painting classes).  There are weekend opportunities for camping and day trips for hikes and to the Menindee lakes with swags available to use from the Staff quarters. There are also a number of pubs and cafes with trivia and Drag queen karaoke occurring each week.

    Support Mechanisms

    Performance reviews at mid-way and end of secondment as well as supervision and shared case management each day.

    Annual Leave Policy

    3x ADOs to be taken during secondment and to be negotiated during orientation.

    Annual Leave to be negotiated with manager as per staffing requirements. Please notify manager if you are aware of any planned leave prior to commencement of secondment.
