    Selection Criteria

    FYG Clinical Rotations

    All rotations are 8 or 16 weeks in duration and FYG will do 4-5 of these rotations.  All FYG do ICU and Cardiothoracics.  3 of the FYG will be seconded to the Mater Hospital in North Sydney:

    Musculoskeletal Outpatients (16 weeks)

    General Surgery (8 weeks)

    Orthopaedics (8 weeks)

    Cardiothoracics (8 weeks)

    Intensive Care (8 weeks)

    Mater Hospital - Elective Orthopaedics (16 weeks)

    Rehabilitation - Sacred Heart (8 weeks)

     

    Working Hours

    Ordinary hours are 8.00 to 4.45pm 

    Weekend Shifts

    Weekend duties: one weekend shift in every 3 or 4 weeks, with a day off during the week.

    Evening shifts

    Evening hours: During the ICU rotation (8 weeks) 10.00 a.m. to 6.45 p.m. (no on-call)

    Orientation Process

    Hospital and Clinical Information will be distributed prior to commencement.

    Orientation is done in the first week of the FYG year

    Weekly Hospital Grand Rounds

    Monthly Presentations by the Allied Health Research Unit

    Campus presentations 

    Pre-Requisites e.g. D/L; Interest in clinical areas relevant to facility

    Social Activities

    For 150 years, St Vincent's has been an integral part of inner-city Sydney and it has a long tradition of supporting the areas of Darlinghurst, Paddington and Surry Hills.  Over the last decade there has been an explosion of culture, food and sport within these areas and St Vincent's has been an important part of this evolution.  From the Sydney Cricket Ground/Football Stadium to the Art Gallery to Kings Cross there is a multitude of experiences all within walking distances of our precinct and as a St Vincent's physiotherapist you will be uniquely placed to be a part of our vibrant culture.

    Support Mechanisms

    Mentoring Programme: each FYG will be allocated a Level 1/2 mentor who will provide support/clinical supervision during the year

    Level 1/2 Forum: there is a monthly meeting of the Level 1/2 staff members that encompasses discussions of relevant matters as well as educational presentations

    Employee Counselling: all staff have access to the EAP counselling, a service that is independent of the hospital

    Annual Leave Policy

    Annual Leave may be negotiated but is limited for First Year Graduates
