    FYG Clinical Rotations

    Musculoskeletal and Women's Health Outpatients (Auburn District Hospital)

    Geriatric Inpatients (Westmead Hospital in Geriatric Medicine - Secondment)

    Acute Inpatient Wards (Auburn District Hospital)

    Community (Hospital in the Home - secondment). 

    Working Hours

    Physiotherapy Department working hours during the week are 08:00 - 16:30.

    Weekend and public holiday working hours are also 08:00 – 16:30. 

    No evening or night duty.

    Weekend Shifts

    The FYG on inpatient rotation at Auburn Hospital will be required to work every Saturday during that rotation with an RDO on the preceeding Wednesday. Work hours are 08:00 - 16:30.

    Travel

    Auburn and Lidcombe Train Stations are both approximately 15-20 min walk from the hospital

    Staff parking is available for a small fee.

    Street parking is usually available within 1-2 blocks of the hospital.

    Orientation Process

    New graduate staff will be onboarded during their first two weeks and integrated into their clinical role during this period. This includes completing corporate orientation modules online, inservices and practical activities. 

    New graduates starting at secondment sites will also receive local orientation at those sites 

     

    Education Programs

    The physiotherapy department at Auburn Hospital runs weekly inservices 

    New Graduate Physiotherapists at Auburn District Hospital and on secondment undergo regular clinical supervision sessions with senior staff for ongoing professional development and education/skill development.

    Attendance at external development courses/events is also encouraged/supported.

    Pre-Requisites e.g. D/L; Interest in clinical areas relevant to facility

    FYGs must hold a valid provisional licence or full licence to undertake allocation at Auburn Hospital. 

    Social Activities

    Auburn is a small district hospital with a very friendly atmosphere.

    Social events (such as staff lunches) both within the physiotherapy and allied health teams as well as across the facility are common. Social Committee also organise regular social activities. 

    Support Mechanisms

    The department has a mentorship program for FYGs run by a senior physiotherapist.

    Each FYG will also have a designated clinical senior for each rotation. 

    WSLHD also has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available to all staff.

    Annual Leave Policy

    Annual leave whilst rotating through Auburn Hospital is considered in consultation with clinical seniors and head of department. 

    Leave whilst on secondment at Westmead Hospital may not be accommodated.
