FYG Clinical Rotations
The roster is divided into two clinically equivalent Streams. Each Stream has five different rotations of either 10 or 12 weeks. There are 3 secondments - 2 people at any time to DUBBO and 1 person to BALMAIN
Other rotations include Intensive Care Units / Cardiothoracics / Evenings and Weekends (includes being on call) / Aged Care / Elective Orthopaedics / Outpatients
They are organised in the first week or if possible via teams/zoom prior to commencing.
Working Hours
7 day roster
Day shift 0800 -1630
Evening shift 1330 - 2200 then on call to 0800 next morning
Weekend Shifts
All FYG will do one "Nights and weekends rotation". This will be every weekend either on day shift or nights for this entire rotation

Travel
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is in Missenden Road, Camperdown, adjacent to main campus of Sydney University.
There are bus links along Parramatta Road to Camperdown and to King Street, Newtown.
Trains to either Newtown or Redfern Stations.

Orientation Process
Sydney Local Health District Corporate Orientation is one full day held out at Olympic park which will be either in your first or second week. The rest of the first week will be a comprehensive departmental orientation. Secondments begin week 2 (after the corporate orientation)
Information will be sent to new graduates with employment paperwork.
Orientation to evening duty includes clinical teaching with a more experienced physiotherapist.
Education Programs
Centre for Education Workforce Development (CEWD) provides in house education and on line mandatory education.
Comprehensive catalogue of on line learning available through Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) from the Ministry of Health.
Physiotherapy Department education program includes inservices, practical classes and clinical case presentations.
Course leave applications will be considered on a case to case basis. The course will need to be relevant to clinical work.
Regular tutorials (5x5) conducted for FYG. Grand rounds and annual District Innovations Symposium

Social Activities
Membership is available to Area Leisure and Fitness, a very active Sports and Social Club for all hospital staff, includes a gymnasium.
Many social activities organised within physiotherapy.
Support Mechanisms
There are designated senior physiotherapists in each clinical rotation.
There is a mentorship programme which is conducted with a more experienced peer.
Annual Leave Policy
No annual leave within the first six months of employment.
After six months, annual leave may be considered. Annual leave will not be approved when on Nights/weekend roster. While on secondment it will be at the discretion of the head of department of the secondment hospital.
