Selection Criteria
1. Eligibility for a First Year Graduate position including:
i. Tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy completed by the end of the 2024 academic year from a NSW University or a NSW resident studying at an interstate university,
ii. Eligible for Physiotherapy Registration with AHPRA
iii. Australian Work Rights
2. Ability to apply clinical knowledge and concepts to practical situations in clinical settings.
3. Proven ability to apply evidence-based practice in clinical settings.
4. Demonstrated ability to respond to feedback and incorporate into clinical practice.
5. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and organise a busy workload.
7. Demonstrated commitment to professional development and Evidenced Based Practice.
8. Current unrestricted NSW driver's licence & willingness to drive for work purposes
FYG Clinical Rotations
General wards and close observation unit with outpatients & hydrotherapy 50%
Outpatients, hydrotherapy with some coverage to theatres & Emergency Dept 50%
Occasional visits to the affiliated Tabulam Aged Care Facility in Portland
Working Hours
Hours of work - 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday
Weekend Shifts
No weekend work (currently) - possibility in future for weekend work but not currently part of role
Evening shifts
NO evening shift work
Accommodation
No housing provided by the Hospital
Travel
45 minutes drive from Katoomba or Bathurst
25 minutes drive from Blackheath
1 hour 25 minutes drive from Penrith
Orientation Process
- Contact the Physiotherapist Manager at least one week prior to commencement.
- The Physiotherapy department has close links with Nepean and Blue Mountains Hospitals.
- 1 day clinical orientation at Nepean and one day mandatory training at Lithgow - Topics include manual handling, WH&S, cast application and removal, respiratory assessment for adults and paediatrics, brace application, mobility assessments, basic life support (BLS). (COVID can affect this).
- Weekly supervision with Physiotherapy Manager or experienced Physiotherapists
- Allied Health New Graduate Program handbook supplied for additional reference.
- Uniform available for ordering after first pay cycle: teal shirt/navy pants.
- The staff are friendly and supportive.
- You may be invited to meet the previous new grad & other staff prior to commencement.

- Webinars and departmental inservices, often linking into Nepean Hospital education sessions via online video call
- NBMLHD Interprofessional peer group sessions
- Annual Physiotherapy Professional Development Day
- Opportunities for Study Leave for internal or external education, is available upon request and approval
Pre-Requisites e.g. D/L; Interest in clinical areas relevant to facility
Drivers License
Hydrotherapy: Ability to swim and willingness to be trained in pool rescue
Social Activities
- Approximately 13,000 people live in the town, and another 8,000 in the surrounding area.
- Lithgow is a historical town with strong links to Australia's industial development, and is a 20 minute drive from the Blue Mountains.
- Recreational activities include bush walking, mountain bike riding, rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning, golf, etc.

Annual Leave Policy
Annual leave is usually not approved for New Graduates in their first year of work in the LHD.
However, it may be considered at Lithgow, and requires approval from the Physiotherapy Manager.
