FYG Clinical Rotations

3 Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) Grads at any one time 10/11 weeks and 1 on secondment from Sydney Children's Hospital Network {SCHN}, Westmead.

ISLHD Rotations are :-



Community and out patients

SCHN grad do a generalist position whilst on secondmemt with SDMH

Working hours

Monday to Friday 8-4.30pm.

Allocated day off every four weeks in consultation with team and Unit Head.

Weekend shifts

Weekend work as rostered (2-3 weekends per rotation). Roster is drawn up and available to all at the beginning of the new grad year.

Evening shifts



Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Staff Quarters MAY be available.  Please contact the Unit Head to check availability well in advance of rotation to the Shoalhaven.


Train line terminates at Bommaderry which is approximately 3 kms north of the hospital.

Orientation Process

Corporate orientation 1+ eMR training 1/2 day - remaining orientation completed online via My Health Learning modules. Site and department orientation on first day of each new rotation.


For SCHN Grad on line orientation, departmental and site specific orientation/education will commence on first working day in the Shoalhaven.

Education programs

ISLHD New Graduate Skills and Education Program to be held on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th January 2018.


ISLHD Physiotherapy New Graduate Handbook supplied as part of ISLHD Physiotherapy New Graduate Skills and Education Program.


Site specific orientation and education revision program each rotation.

Monthly departmental Inservice.

Weekly interesting patient review.

Senior staff support in all areas.

Pre-Requisites e.g. D/L; Interest in clinical areas relevant to facility

Current NSW drivers license (or equivalent).

Social Activities

All water sports (river and beaches)/ outdoor sports / Bushwalking / Rock climbing /Movie Theatre / National Parks / Cycling / Horse Riding / Gym / Dance studios/ Wineries/Trivia.

Clinical Supervision.

Annual Leave Policy

Only 2 weeks of annual leave will be approved during the new graduate year. All leave is granted at the discretion of the Unit Head Physiotherapists for individual sites, taking into account the needs of the service. No leave can be taken for the first 3 months. Leave taken across all sites is spread evenly.
